Progress v. Regress

Every four years, our country manages to have a major change in leadership without bloodshed. No revolution is required here to attain a new leader. In fact, the whole process is pretty benign.

The new regime takes office and we hit the ground running.

How about though in your personal life? Does it take a revolution of sorts.. bloodshed - either yours or theirs.. to cause change? We mark ourselves as enlightened and progressive because of this ability to grow and change as a society. And yet, so very often in our personal relationships we are exceedingly regressive.

Fighting is for sissies. Mature adults go beyond tolerance of others and land firmly in the world of ambivalence towards stupid shit (pardon my french, but honestly, I dont know what else to call it!). You know, when as a responsible person, I become absorbed in whether or not the religious beliefs of someone else conflict with my own, I have regressed. When I begin to give a flying flip about whether or not one man takes a penis in the butt from another man.. or a woman takes a tongue in the .. well that could really go anywhere, yes?.. Anyhow.. when I start asserting that my preferences sexually are the right way and begin judging anothers.. thats stupid shit.

Now, dont get me wrong, some things are just worth standing up for. This may be an unpopular voice, but I personally think that optional abortions are wrong. With that being said, I will choose to voice said opinion not through violence on a picket line but rather through my interactions with others.

I know more want to judge someone else unnecessarily than I want my life or actions judged by others. I mean truly, are any of us really better than the person standing next to us?!?

Sooo.. perhaps the next opportunity you have, you will progress and not regress.
