War and Power

Law 45 - Preach the need for change, but never reform too much at once.(The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene)

War. Its all too easy to say war is violence. Its brute tactics. Its..

War, whether you like it or not, is politics. Its all about politics and power. It is the last measure of recourse in the political toolbelt. War is not about violence per se but rather furthering your political objective.

War.

Such a little word with so much power behind the meaning. It didnt even make it to be a 4-letter word.

Our country has been at war, this time at least, for so long. My family, between them, has given over eight tours of duty with each being 16 months long to this endeavor. This does not include the two tours which are impending in October.

My son-in-law will be deploying then as will the father of my children.. First and Third tours, respectively. My oldest boy will be coming out of boot camp shortly after his dad deploys. I know in my heart now, that he will choose to follow his father with an almost sense of worship.

We've been so lucky. They've all come home relatively well.

Today I am afraid though. Not at the thought of losing a son-in-law or in losing my ex husband (gosh I know that sounds bad). But I'm afraid to my core that my family has been playing russian roulette and when my boy arrives on scene all the empty chambers will have spun through.

I think there is only so many times you can place a bet without something happening. I already think we're well past our comfort zone on this.

I'm not angry about our war even though our not so mutually esteemed President has still chosen to perpetuate it despite his avid pre-election protestations. Rather, I'm thinking of the Sullivan brothers today. How must their mother have felt then?

I pray I never find out.
