Can a slave have needs?

Do slave's have needs? Moreover, do slave's have the right to have needs?!?

Of course a slave has needs. To operate under the assumption that they dont or that they can be quelled is a mistake.

Any living creature on the planet is going to have needs. There is, however, a difference between needs and desires. Knowing the difference between the two is imperative.

Perhaps thats why a slave should openly speak of needs with her Master? Sometimes you cant see the forest for the trees. A slave should defer judgment and guidance to her Master's wisdom. So, perhaps, if a candid conversation could be had between a Master and slave regarding the respective needs, the Master could shed light on need v. desire?

Problems start when a slave isnt really willing to accept a Master's thought on this and pushes what was delegated as a desire as a full blown need. But is that problem really about slave's having needs? I think not. I think that problem is more a lack of respect or deference for a Master.

So, to need or not to need.. that is the question.

Me, personally.. I think a slave without any needs is a scary thing. A slave that has no gutt wrenching her towards something.. is a slave that could no more appreciate the service a Master invariably provides than she could function without emotion..

Monks try to live a life of no desire and only on need. They are empathetic and compassionate souls. They care for others and serve their communities. Could this be a slave? I dont think so.

Maybe.. though, just maybe.. if a Master led and a slave followed.. the things labeled as needs would fall away to crazy whims.. and eventually fade away altogether.. Silly me for thinking that though..
