Why should a slave sacrifice?

In the Old Testament, King David required offerings from his people. Bible verse says that not just any old offering would do. King David didnt want a few coin from a wealthy man or a few ears of corn from a farmer. To him, what were the people giving that offered this or the like? No, to him the measure of a worthy offering was all in the sacrifice.

How much did they sacrifice in putting forth their offering? To him, that was the measure of devotion.

And so, today, isnt that still the same measuring stick we use to gauge a gift?

When does a slave sacrifice? Why does a slave sacrifice?

Its easy to think of a slave as a shell. A slave entity, per se, that modulates their behavior to be as compliant as humanly possible. I dont think thats a slave. I dont think a slave is mechanical. Does a robot actually yield? Does a machine submit?

Plainly No.

The most amazing part of a slave is their willingness to yield all things to their Master. To submit all things to His guidance. This inherently implies the slave functions as a mindful, willful, self possessed entity. The slave's sacrificial offering is their will.

Thats a pretty big tall order. I've often said that true blue died in the wool slaves are a rare thing indeed. Theyre rare because the enormity of this offering is often not desirous by the standards of others. Most are quite content defining a few, or a lot, of boundaries to protect themselves.

So, which is worth it? Giving some or giving all. Biblically speaking, David's people sacrificially gave because of the leadership, protection and guidance he brought to his people. He served the needs of his people just as much as they sacrificed. His purpose was more than sitting on a gilded throne. Rather, his purpose was to ensure the well being, care and welfare of the peoples of his land.

Not all leaders are as admired and wonderous ad David was.. rather, there are some more like Bill Clinton. There are some leaders and Masters, for that matter, who feel like the gilded throne is where its at. Just as Bill Clinton was impeached, most leaders who fail to serve the needs of their people.. most Masters who fail to serve the needs of their slaves.. find their very selves wanting because the amount of sacrificial offering received is directly proportionate to their ability to satisfy the needs of their people / slave.

Denial of this precedence is folly. Long term denial tends to find peoples without leaders and slaves without Masters.

So, is the sacrifice worth it? It could be.. should be.. might be.. It sure has the opportunity to be..
