Broken Promises

Somewhere. Sometime. You have to choose.

Somewhere. Sometime ago. We did.

We chose to catalog which of our promises were breakable promises and which ones weren't. What exactly is a promise? A commitment of word.. oath.. personal guarantee? I think it is all those and more. To little old me, a promise is personal. Its a matter of your word.

Where do these little personal oaths come into play between a Master & slave? All the freaking time!

Its starts with a contract which is in a lot of ways like the terms and conditions you get whenever you enter any other deal. The promise comes in the fulfillment of said terms and conditions. In said contract, the Master and slave agree, mutually, on a set of terms and conditions they become applicable in.

Through fulfillment of these terms and conditions a slave submits. There seems to be an implication that the contract only requires fulfillment through unconditional servitude by said slave. It could be misconstrued as such considering the Master seems to have carte blanche latitude in regards to her.

However, their relationship is reciprocal in nature. A slave, at least a rational thinking one, enters into said agreement with the expectation that a Master will be acting as such - a Master. Like any other agreement, when that promise goes unfulfilled, it begins a break down of the relationship. Small fractures at first but ones that steadily grow in size. The same is true for a Master. Should he enter into a relationship and the slave fail to yield, he will begin to lose trust.

And really, that is the only thing that a Master or slave ever gains from the promises held or broken in these agreements. Trust. Trust fulfilled or lost.

The Bible speaks at length on the act of forgiveness. In fact, it references it as an act for the benefit of the one who forgives.

If a Master or slave forgives the other for a breach, how do they regain trust? As trust is a bi-product of a completed promise, it seems to me that if this is desired, fulfillment of the agreement even yet then is the only point of resolution.

It is a leap of faith. Blind in its nature. But trust is so rare, to have it may make the jump all worth the while.
