I've been reflecting on 2010 a lot the last couple of days. Wow what a ride it was..
The year started in pretty much the same dismal state that ended 2009 with little hope for change anytime soon. Work was brutal, especially the first half of the year. I was really struggling meeting this company's expectations at least doing things the way they thought they should be done. It was almost like I was being swallowed up in the process. Somewhere around halfway through, I developed a serious "fuck it" attitude over it and just started doing things my way.
Voila! Success. All of a sudden they liked it.. they liked what they saw.. they liked the results.. Oh to do those first six months over again...lol
School is going pretty well all in all.. Math beat my ass like a sadist in the Fall. That being said, I still have my 4.0 and all of you know just how completely obsessive I am about that... LOL.
The kiddos are good.. my daughter had success and started teaching.. my oldest boy left for Afghanistan.. the two lil guys (sorta lil still..lol) are busy slobbering over girls in school and playing sports.
Life is pretty good. I can sit here beside this ginormous Christmas tree and see the history of Christmas's in the ornaments. I can see the hand painted bulbs saying 'I Love NY' from 2001.. and the baby's first from 1989.. Hand painted ornaments from 1997 when we were sooo poor.. paper angels made in preschool.. gift ornaments from friends and loved ones.. even a freebie ornament I was given in a gas station on my drive back to north carolina trying to reunite with their father.. All those Christmases.. All those memories - good and bad.
This year's Christmas is pretty good. Pretty happy. Pretty content. My youngest said its the best Christmas in a while (although I'm sure the new Kinect for the Xbox is part of it). It gives me hope for 2011.
My ornament this year was a dragonfly for good luck. I hope it works..
